For drummers who love the look of LEDs, here’s a fun way to integrate them into their drumset: a drum lamp! The lamp features a colorful LED design that illuminates from within. It’s a great addition to any room and makes for a cool conversation piece. The base and shade are both brushed nickel and the lamp uses a standard 13-watt bulb.
This awesome drumset lamp comes in a variety of colors (red, blue, green, yellow, purple, cyan, white) and rotates through them automatically. It can also be set to a specific color if you prefer. It’s powered by a USB cable and includes a plug that fits into wall outlets. The lamp measures between 8″-10″ tall depending on the model.
Probably the simplest solution of the bunch, this LED strip installs around a snare shell and is activated by vibrations from the drum. It has a pretty basic control interface with presets for different illuminating effects and can be adjusted for sensitivity, duration, and decay — although that last feature is not exactly intuitive.
Another option is a system called AirBeez, which is more customizable and more akin to a drum light fixture than the simple LED strips. It can detect multiple vibrations to trigger various effects, and the company even has a DMX controller that allows you to manipulate parameters for up to ten drum lights at once.
Another cool way to use your drums for lighting is this amazingly clever upcycle project that turns them into pendant lights. First, you need a used tom drum (look for one with a chrome ring on the top) and a pendant light kit that can be hardwired into your ceiling. Next, you need to add a strip of wood to the inside of the drum to create a slot that your light fixture can thread through.
